Olympic Torch Relay On Our Doorstep

Well, not quite.  A five-minute walk away.  But almost!

We waited a long time. The wind was cold, but each time the sun peeked out from behind the clouds, the air would briefly become hot and muggy.  We munched apples and tried to be patient.

Anticipation increased and the crowd multiplied in size and noise.

Phones and cameras out...

It was the bright saintly white of this guy's running suit that made me realise he was carrying the torch.  And the sun burst out from the clouds just as he passed us.  What a moment!

We saw many interesting patriotic outfits, but these two were the best-dressed, in my opinion.  Aren't they sweet?!

We indulged in the rare [for us] but very British treat of a trip to the sweet shop, and walked home chewing bubble gum, chomping on gummy mushrooms, and sucking rosy apples.

Rule Britannia!  What an amazingly patriotic year to become a British citizen.

  1. I totally agree, Ms. E. Not everyone could experience a Diamond Jubilee year and an Olympic torch runner in the same year. Cool with a capital C.
