Coo and I went out together on Saturday afternoon, just the two of us, to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and viewed their pre-Raphaelite exhibit on loan from the Tate. BM&AG already possesses a permanent collection of pre-Raphaelite art, but the Tate exhibit includes John William Waterhouse's painting" The Lady of Shalott", one of my favourites. Anyone who's ever read Anne of Green Gables will appreciate the beauty of this painting as well as the comic reminder of Anne's disastrous dramatic adventure in which she pretends to be the Lady!
I'm not sure how much of Saturday afternoon Coo will remember, but I loved every minute of it. We talked about the paintings that caught her eye. Predictably, these were the ones of women with flowing gorgeous dresses and incredibly long hair. She loves pretty clothes and hair so much!
We travelled there and back on the train. Coo enjoyed talking about the people we saw and what they were wearing. She was also fascinated by the fountain in Victoria Square, and walked all the way around the wall surrounding the fountain, holding my hand. We sipped hot drinks from Starbucks and trudged through cold rain.
As wonderful as our afternoon --"girls' time", as Coo calls it-- was, we were happy to get home to see "our boys" --Daddy, James [friend living with us this year], Lefty, Righty, and Mr J!
Girls time between mother and daughter is so very precious. I hope it's a tradition you carry on for years to come. :)
